As a leading lawyer with high-profile entrepreneurial experience, both a thoughtful strategist and ambitious rainmaker, he leverages deep knowledge and dynamic insights, bridging the gap between law, business, and the real world.
Bringing three decades of experience to the table, David has developed a reputation for making rain while the sun shines and vice versa. Drawing on long-term international expertise to generate exceptional results for clients, his career has spanned multi-award-winning law firms and rapid growth start-ups,
while the majority of his clients have been high-profile and FTSE 100 companies.
It all began at HSBC, then known as Midland Bank. After a baptism of fire as a legal advisor through the birth of the credit card in the UK, the pressure continued as David headed a complete upheaval of the bank’s credit book. With sights set firmly on the future, he worked his way up the legal ladder, serving as a partner at DMH Stallard and DJ Freeman for around five years respectively. For the latter, he became the youngest partner and head of litigation in the firm’s history, working on a range of high-stakes transatlantic cases, including the representation of Roger Seelig in the infamous Guinness Share Trading Scandal in 1992.
By the early mid-90s, David had been headhunted by the founder of Bermans, based in New York, to set up their first London office. After growing the team from 2 to 170 in three short years, he decided it was about time he started setting up his own success, with the incorporation of Orchard Solicitors.
What followed was strategic, competitive and ambitious growth, culminating in a 222-strong team across five offices and three continents. From representing clients against Dan Brown in the Da Vinci Code litigation to acquiring the leading white-collar crime practice, Chadwick Healy, Orchard Solicitors became known as a powerhouse of profit-driving and passionate individuals.
In 2010, David joined forces with Christopher Orchard to launch a second firm known as William Grosvenor & Partners. Following a similar trajectory to its predecessor, this enterprise was scaled rapidly from 2 to 75 team members, with a particular focus on advising global clients on complex, high-stakes issues and situations. It was here David developed an interest in capital markets, acting for VC, PE and hedge fund clients, while working on over 75 private capital raises and setting up a Bitcoin brokerage off the back of the UK’s first crypto exchange.
Finally, in 2016, David was part of the group that founded WGP Global, now working alongside a tight-knit team of influential specialists to lead complex assignments for clients worldwide. He specializes in high-stakes situations on a global scale, with a particular focus and passion for supporting clients in litigation, white-collar defense, arbitration and regulation across multiple jurisdictions. Seasoned but by no means soft, David brings a unique skill set that only comes with significant litigation exposure and a weakness for winning that shows no sign of slowing.
